Comparison of the sculpture of the
chapel
and an orthodoxe icon :
One notes between these two images the similarity of the cross, the
beard, the "cap" is religious, with the costume richly made. It is
clear
to me that the character engraved in the stone is of byzantine
influence. It could be a representation of the Tsar Stefan Uros IV
Dusan (1308-1355). This historical character has a great
importance with the eyes of the Serb population in particular.
Indeed, it constituted in its time the most powerful Serb kingdom of
all
times. Moreover it was guaranteeing independence of the Serb church
obtained
in 1219 per Saint Sava (another key character). It would then not be
surprising
to see it represented in the shape of a "stone icon" by refuge
populations
of orthodoxe confession... But it is only one assumption to be
discussed.
Indeed, it could be simply a representation of the patriarch
of an orthodoxe church ... At all events, I did not manage to
identify
the carved form appearing on the left of the character, then if
somebody
has an idea, send to me an e-mail!
